What are the Responsibilities of a Tutor?
- Work one-on-one with a student or lead a small group of 2-7 students.
- Provide student with positive support and encouragement.
- Guide student in setting realistic short and long terms goals.
- Meet on agreed days and times.
- Regularly report to area program coordinator.
- Submit monthly tutoring and preparation hours.
- Log-in monthly report related to student.
- Canceling an appointment? Call student in advance of date.
- Contact area program coordinator with concerns.
How do I Become an Effective Tutor?
- Begin by filling out our tutor application.
- You will get an email with details about our tutor training workshops.
Once you are matched with a student or group:
- Stay open and creative; “keep a beginner’s mind.”
- Plan “learner-based approach” lessons.
- Be mindful of the agency’s goals related to student progress.
- Stop, look, hear, and listen to your student and their needs.
