What are the Responsibilities of a Tutor?
- Provide student with positive support and encouragement.
- Guide student in setting realistic short and long terms goals.
- Meet on agreed days and times.
- Regularly report to area program coordinator.
- Submit monthly tutoring and preparation hours.
- Log-in monthly report related to student.
- Canceling an appointment? Call student in advance of date.
- Contact area program coordinator with concerns.
How do I Become an Effective Tutor?
- Stay open and creative; “keep a beginner’s mind.”
- Plan “learner-based approach” lessons.
- Be mindful of the agency’s goals related to student progress.
- Stop, look, hear, and listen to your student and their needs.

Adult Literacy
Session 1 - Introduction to Adult Literacy (choose one)
- January 25th- 10am-noon- OCLC Hillsborough Office, 118 N. Church Street, Hillsborough
- January 28th - 6pm-8pm - First Baptist Church, 201 W. King Street, Hillsborough
- January 30th - 1pm-3pm - OCLC Chapel Hill Office, 503 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill
Session 2 - Core Principles (choose one)
- February 8th - 9:30am -1pm - OCLC Hillsborough Office, 118 N. Church Street, Hillsborough
- February 11th - 5:30pm-9pm - First Baptist Church, 201 W. King Street, Hillsborough
