What are the Responsibilities of a Tutor?

  • Work one-on-one with a student or lead a small group of 2-7 students.
  • Provide student with positive support and encouragement.
  • Guide student in setting realistic short and long terms goals.
  • Meet on agreed days and times.
  • Regularly report to area program coordinator.
  • Submit monthly tutoring and preparation hours.
  • Log-in monthly report related to student.
  • Canceling an appointment? Call student in advance of date.
  • Contact area program coordinator with concerns.

How do I Become an Effective Tutor?

  • Begin by filling out our tutor application.
  • You will get an email with details about our tutor training workshops.

Once you are matched with a student or group:

  • Stay open and creative; “keep a beginner’s mind.”
  • Plan “learner-based approach” lessons.
  • Be mindful of the agency’s goals related to student progress.
  • Stop, look, hear, and listen to your student and their needs.
