Orange Literacy provides FREE tutoring services to help adults improve their skills and improve their lives. Students with Orange Literacy must be at least 18 years old. Tutoring is free and we provide textbooks, workbooks and other study materials. Sign up to become a student today.



Students in our Adult Basic Education program work with a tutor to improve reading and writing and/or math skills. We also help improve job skills. Students meet with their tutor twice a week.


We tutor all four subjects of the GED, as well as the HiSET. We also help improve test-taking skills. Students meet with their tutor twice a week.


Students in our English for Speakers of Other Languages program learn English in one of our small classes. Our students are from all over the world and are at all levels of English. Classes meet twice a week.


In partnership with Church World Service of Durham, we provide free Citizenship classes for English Language Learners. Students learn the 128 USCIS civics questions as well as how to answer the N-400 application questions, and also improve their speaking, writing and listening skills in English. Classes meet twice a week.



In partnership with El Centro Hispano, we offer free English classes for parents with children from 7 months to 5 years of age. Parents and children are split into separate classes for part of the time, and spend part of the time learning together. Classes meet twice a week.* *For Orange County only.



Learn the basics of using computers, smartphones and the Internet. Enhance your everyday life or boost your career by learning how to search the web, shop online, use common office applications and more.

Nothing! All of our services are free.

When do your classes start and stop?

Most small groups are ongoing. New students join as they enroll and continue throughout the year unless their schedule changes.

How long does it take to get started?

You start immediately! Our services are available as soon as you make an appointment. We find a tutor or class that fits your schedule as soon as possible.

How long will it take to get my GED?

It depends on many factors. You and your tutor can set the pace that works best for you.

Where can my child be tutored?

There are a number of very good programs in the area designed for K-12 students. Contact the Augustine Project, Achievement Academy, or your child’s school counselor.

Can you help me improve my computer skills?

Yes! We have a computer lab in our Carrboro office as well as Digital Literacy classes.

Where will I be tutored?

We tutor throughout Orange County, including our Carrboro office, local libraries, churches, remotely using the Internet, and more. We will try to find a location that is convenient for you.
