Orange Literacy Hires Kera Yonker as Development and Communications Manager

CARRBORO, NC, December 15, 2021-- Orange Literacy welcomes Kera Yonker as their development and communications manager to lead fundraising efforts. A veteran of the publishing industry, Yonker brings nearly two decades of sales and marketing experience to the role.

Prior to her work in development, she had roles with several book publishers, including Oxford University Press and McGraw-Hill Professional. Yonker comes most recently from the Ann Arbor, MI-based Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation.

“We are so excited to have her join our team. This will allow our coordinators to focus on adding more programs and reaching more students in our community,” said Executive Director Alice Denson.

“This is a big step for Orange Literacy, and a necessary one. Kera’s already applied her experience to fundraising for us as a volunteer, and we’re thrilled to have her do so in an official capacity,” said Board President Jon Jester.

Yonker began assisting Orange Literacy in 2020 and served as the outreach committee co-chair. When the pandemic prevented the annual in-person fundraiser, Yonker helped organize several innovative hybrid and online-only events over the course the year. One event was the online authors' panel that featured culinary historian and James Beard award winner Michael W. Twitty.

“I have the highest esteem for the work of Orange Literacy and our students. I am excited and honored to serve in this way,” Yonker said.

Yonker can be reached via email at kyonker@orangeliteracy.org.
